Here in the little village, perched on a narrow shelf between the river and bluffs, you will find lodging and opportunities to satisfy your appetite for food and drink.
Because of the close proximity of the Mississippi River and the steep bluff faces, Ferryville's Main Street stretches directly along the Wisconsin Great River Road. This also has in the past qualified Ferryville for the Guiness Book of Records as the longest town with only a single street.
The Driftless Area around Ferryville is famous the world over because it is completely surrounded by glaciated territory. The Mississippi River Valley is one of the North America's greatest environmental resources and a major bird migration corridor. Due to the river's north-to-south orientation and diverse variety of ecosystems, millions of migratory birds use this corridor each year during fall and spring migration. Pelicans, diving ducks, and swans use the river's large open water pool number 9. Geese, herons, egrets, resident and migrants songbirds use the shallow backwater wetlands. Bottomland forests support migrating and nesting populations of songbirds, bald eagles, ospreys, falcons, mallards and wood ducks.
Ferryville on the Mississippi River offers fantastic fishing, boating, hunting, birdwatching, bicycling, camping and hiking. Ferryville's boat launch makes it easy to experience the river's natural activities. Railroad buffs find Ferryville a desirable destination for close-up train watching.
Two observation decks offer stunning views across the Lake Winneshiek, a widened area of the Mississippi River formed by the Lynxville dam.
Sugar Creek Park is a great place to visit with its playground and primitive camp sites. During the summer month weekends “The Market in the Park” offers Amish goods, seasonal produce, crafts and flea market.
Ferryville is also a home of the Cheese & More, Old Tyme Quilt Shoppe and Kay's Potiques Pottery Art Shop.
